The Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) is a private not-for-profit organisation that was created in 1986.

Its activity contributes to improving the quality and competitiveness of companies, their products and services. UNE helps organizations to generate one of the values most appreciated in the current economy: the confidence.

UNE is the organization legally responsible for the development and dissemination of technical standards in Spain. It is the national representative and member of the European (CEN/CENELEC), International (ISO/IEC) and Panamerican (COPOLCO) Standards Organizations, and member of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
More than 30000 standards in catalogue and 150 international responsibilities (chairpersons, secretariats, convenors) in standardization committees are a sample of the experience developed as national standardization body.

UNE is participating in many RTD and Innovation projects (FP7, Life+, IEE, etc.) to support and manage the integration of standardization activities in the projects, fostering the dissemination of their results to the relevant European stakeholders and facilitating their introduction into the market. It is also an active member of the CEN-CENELEC Technical Board STAIR Group (Standardization, Innovation and Research), which develops the practical integration of standardization and research.

UNE is also the Spanish Member Body of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and theEuropean Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC)
